Who we are

We are a multidisciplinary group of scientists, engineers, space technology specialists, and professionals dedicated to environmental innovation. We combine technical expertise, strategic vision, and a commitment to sustainability to develop advanced satellite-based environmental monitoring solutions.
The Perception Project was born from the integration of universities, research centers, government institutions, and strategic partners, with the aim of creating a national remote monitoring infrastructure capable of supporting real-time critical decision-making, protecting our ecosystems, and contributing to Brazil's sustainable development.
Our work is grounded in the principles of systems engineering, data science, Earth observation, and emerging technologies, applied to the tracking of biomes, natural resources, and critical infrastructures. We believe that to face the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow, it takes more than observation — it requires perception. And that perception guides every stage of our mission.
The project is carried out by the Laboratory of Simulation and Control of Aerospace Systems at the University of Brasília (UnB) and is currently associated with and integrated into the Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA) — an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI), coordinated by the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA). The team includes researchers from INPA itself, various academic units at UnB, with notable contributions from the Água Limpa Farm, the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA), the University of Vigo (Spain), and the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom). Perception also benefits from the technical partnership of Alén Space, a company specialized in the development of space solutions focused on CubeSat missions and distributed systems architecture.
The project is primarily funded by the Research Support Foundation of the Federal District (FAPDF), with additional support from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).
We are those who have come together to expand our perception of the world we live in.
